7th Annual Carnatic Classical Vocal Music Competition

The rules of the competition is as follows:
1. The competition is for Carnatic vocal only and is thrown open for children from all the southern states i.e. Karnataka, Andhra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The children should be below 15 years as on 1st October 2011 i.e. children born after 1st October 1996 only are eligible to participate. We would require Proof of Age(Copy of either Birth Certificate/School Fee Receipt)
2. Candidates have to send audio cassettes/CDs and selection will be based on the audio tapes/CDs. Children are advised to sing one krithi. Except for shruti support (like Tambura), there should not be any other accompaniments (like violin, mrudangam etc). Rendition with alapana and elaboration with Neraval and swaraprastara will carry high marks.
3. The candidates should indicate a list of five compositions (krithis). Choice of krithis selected will also carry weightage in selection process.
4. The choice of the song to be rendered first by the candidate (from the five selected by the candidate) will be decided by lots in front of the judges. The judges later on can interrupt at any stage of rendering and ask the candidates to go to next stage either in the same Krithi or any of the remaining four krithis e.g. while the candidate is rendering Alapana, the judges may ask them to sing Pallavi / Anupallavi or to go for swara prastara. The candidates should prepare for uninterrupted presentation of 10 minutes (from Alapana to swara prasthara).
5. The candidates have to make their own arrangements to bring tambura/shruthi box. (They are welcome to bring manual tambura along with a person to play at their own cost). No other accompanying support will be permitted.
6. The candidates have to make their own arrangements to come to the venue.
7. The candidates must be present at the venue 15 minutes before the commencement of the competition and confirm their presence. The sequence of presentation will be decided by lots picked by the candidates as soon as they register at the venue.
8. Since the entries are being restricted to a maximum of 20 participants only, the participant desirous of competing should register their names by filling the enclosed application form along with a security deposit of Rs.250/- by Cheque in favour of Bettadapura Sankethi Sangha, Bangalore. We will destroy the Cheques (i.e not encash) of those candidates who are not selected for the competition. However the selected candidates forfeit their deposit if they do not participate in the competition for any reason whatsoever after confirming their participation.
9. Applications should be submitted before 29th August ’11 along with one krithi recorded on audio cassette or CD. The selected candidates will be informed of the selection 2nd week of September so that they get reasonable time to practice all the krithis they have selected as their choice.
10. Indicating your email ID, contact numbers both landline and mobile is necessary for faster communication. Landline number should be provided with the STD CODE. Also your postal address should carry the pin code.
11. The decision of the judges shall be final and no objections will be entertained in this regard.
